5-Day Tanzania safari; Detailed itinerary

Day 01

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Today our representative who will double as your guide and drive will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha very early in the morning, brief you about this exciting tour and then begin the drive to Tarangire National Park. Although this park is small, it offers very good views of wildlife. It has an impressive vegetation cover comprised of very big baobab trees, large swamps and acacia woodland. There are also a number of very high (nearly ‘two-story’) termite mounds that are scattered across the park. During the dry season, the swamps and river Tarangire attract a very large number of wild animals, and because at the time the vegetation is thinning out, game viewing is very impressive. The park has one of the largest populations of the giant African elephants which can easily be sighted during the game drives. The African elephant is the largest living mammal on land, and the adult male ones can weigh up to seven (7) tons. Some of the other animals you are likely to encounter in this park include: buffaloes, African lions, impalas, giraffes, cheetahs, warthogs, mongoose, red-bottomed baboons and ostriches. The greater kudu, fringed eared Oryx and the Ashy starlings are among the unique wildlife species found in Tarangire National Park.

In the evening after exploring the park, you will transfer to Karatu where you will check in at your accommodation for dinner and the overnight. Overnight at Marera Valley Lodge.

During the game drives you will explore various circuits within the park among which is the River Sogore Circuit which circles through the endless plains all the way to the southern sector of the Seronera River. This river attracts a very large number of animals especially in the dry season which congregate to drink water. You will later proceed to the visitor’s center which has a gift shop where you can purchase some Souvenirs, obtain a lot of resourceful information about the park and even enjoy your lunch. The center has great views of wildlife.

Later on in the afternoon you will set out for another game drive to search for more animals within this park. Some of the animals you will see today include: lions, topi, Thompson’s gazelles, cheetahs, elands, giraffes, impalas, zebras and so many others.

Today you will have an opportunity to enjoy a Hot Air Balloon Safari (this is optional at extra cost) in the morning during which you will glide over the endless plains as you enjoy an aerial view of the large number of animals right below you. At the end of it you will have a champagne breakfast.

It is approximated that there are more than 3,000 wild animals living on the crater floor among which are: large zebra herds, warthogs, the mysterious leopards, wildebeests, huge African elephants, jackals, elands, hyenas, buffaloes, cheetahs, lions as well as hippos.
